Community, legislators celebrate office opening of 9th District State Representative candidate Lakesia Collins

CHICAGO — Community supporters and legislators joined 9th District State Representative candidate Lakesia Collins Feb. 8 for the opening of her district office from which she will expand her campaign to bring resources to the district.

Called a “people-powered campaign”, more than 50 people filed into the office for the first day of canvassing from the newly opened facility, located at 3252 W. Roosevelt St. in the Lawndale Plaza. Legislators in attendance included 20th ward Alderwoman Jeannette Taylor, 25th Ward Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez and Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Josina Morita.

A grand opening for the community will be held on Saturday, February 15.

“We look forward to doing great things from this office in our effort to represent the 9th District. I have great volunteers who are willing to work hard, and I’m committed to fighting for the residents of our district to bring the resources we need and deserve,” said Collins.

“Lakesia Collins has fought and will continue to fight for the residents of the 9th District,” said Ald. Taylor. “We need people with her organizing talent and commitment to get the job done in Springfield. This is a great day for Lakesia and her campaign.”

Collins also is endorsed by progressive legislators State Reps. Delia Ramirez and Will Guzzardi and Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson.

Organizations backing her campaign include SEIU Healthcare Illinois, the AFL-CIO, and the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans, among others.
