CHICAGO — The following statement by Lakesia Collins is in response to her endorsement by the Illinois AFL-CIO:
“I am honored and humbled to be endorsed by the Illinois AFL-CIO to represent the 9th House District in Chicago. I do not take lightly the trust they have in me to speak to the concerns of the 900,000 workers they represent across our state.
“I have dedicated my working career to caring for the most vulnerable in our society – fighting to raise standards of care for residents and workers in nursing homes and addressing issues like gun violence, safe schools for our neighborhoods, and wealth inequality. I have worked hard to make sure workers have a voice on the job and hold our elected officials accountable to our interests.
“In Springfield I will continue to raise the issues that working families face with regard to wages, benefits and dignity and respect on the job. I will work to make the 9th District a place where residents have access to the resources they need for a quality life.”
